Westminster Bridge in London was closed on Monday morning following a police incident that required a significant emergency services presence. During the morning rush hour, photographs from the scene showed a cordon in place, with ambulances attending to the situation.
The closure affected both directions at the junction with Westminster Bridge Road, according to the AA, which described the incident as an “emergency services incident.” The Metropolitan Police later confirmed that the situation was mental health-related and that no injuries were reported.
Twelve bus routes have been diverted as a result of the closure, although the AA noted that traffic was coping well despite the disruption. The bridge closure was first reported at 4:07am, and authorities continue to manage the incident safely.
Local commuters and visitors are advised to follow the detours in place and check for updates from transport authorities. Emergency services’ swift response helped prevent any escalation, underscoring the city’s preparedness for incidents of this nature.
