A Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into a school in Uttara, the capital, today in a tragic accident. So far, 11 people have been confirmed dead in the incident, and over a hundred children and students have been injured, many of whom are in critical condition after being burned in the fire. The injured have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The incident took place shortly after 10 am, when a training aircraft lost control and hit a building on the school premises. According to eyewitnesses, a loud explosion occurred immediately after the aircraft hit and the entire building shook. Classes from nursery to first, second and third grades were being held in that part of the school building.

A teacher said, “A training aircraft hit the building directly. It fell into the junior section building, nursery, one, two, three—these classes are held in that building. A hole was completely dug in the gate of the building and the fire broke out.”

Video footage circulating on social media showed a plane engine on the ground floor of a building next to the school garden, and firefighters were desperately trying to bring the fire under control. Rescuers were pulling small children out of the building from different floors.

Immediately after the accident, rescue teams from the Fire Service, Police and Bangladesh Army reached the scene and started the operation. The entire area was surrounded by a security cordon. Local people, guardians and volunteers are helping in the rescue work. The injured students were quickly sent to the hospital by ambulance. Many were lying on the ground, writhing, with various parts of their bodies burned.

The Air Force has not yet officially announced the cause of the accident. However, it is initially believed that the plane lost control and crashed into the school building due to a mechanical fault during training.

Parents rushed to the school premises to search for their children, some rushed to the hospital. Many still do not know whether their children are alive. Social media is flooded with posts of people’s prayers and anger.

An official investigation committee has been formed to investigate the real cause of the plane crash and determine what to do to prevent such incidents in the future.

Rescue work is still underway at the scene, and the authorities concerned have requested that no one spread rumours and create confusion about the situation.

A school, hundreds of families and the entire nation are mourning this incident today. The question is, why the training plane flew over densely populated areas and educational institutions – there is a heated discussion on social media.
