Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, facing serious charges related to sexual offences. The Ghanaian player, who departed Arsenal after his contract expired at the end of last season, stands accused of multiple counts of rape and sexual assault spanning incidents alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.
Partey, 32, was formally charged just days after leaving the north London club in June. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, he faces five counts of rape — two involving one woman and three involving another — along with one count of sexual assault concerning a third individual. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the initial allegation came to light in February 2022 and has since led to a detailed investigation.
Since the charges were made public, Partey’s legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, has stated that her client denies all allegations and is eager to clear his name in the court of law. “He looks forward to the opportunity to finally clear his name,” she affirmed.
Thomas Partey had been a prominent figure in Arsenal’s midfield since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2020. Under manager Mikel Arteta, he was a consistent presence on the pitch, making 35 appearances in the most recent campaign and scoring four goals. Arteta recently expressed confidence that the club adhered fully to the appropriate protocols throughout the process.
An Arsenal spokesperson reiterated the club’s position, noting that Partey’s contract ended on June 30 and that the club could not comment further due to the ongoing legal proceedings.
