Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal worth up to £67.5 million to sign England international Eberechi Eze, potentially hijacking Tottenham’s efforts to acquire the Crystal Palace forward. The move comes after Arsenal’s Kai Havertz suffered a knee injury during their recent victory over Manchester United, prompting Mikel Arteta and his team to accelerate interest in Eze as they seek reinforcements for their attack.
Sources indicate that Arsenal have been in communication with Eze’s representatives throughout the summer, despite Tottenham previously appearing to be in pole position to secure the 27-year-old. Tottenham had reportedly agreed terms close to Eze’s release clause of £68 million, which expired last week.
Eze has expressed a preference to join Arsenal, the club that released him at the age of 13, rather than move to their north London rivals. The deal with Palace is understood to include a large upfront fee of £60 million, with an additional £7.5 million in bonuses. Queens Park Rangers, who sold Eze to Palace in 2020, are set to receive a 15% sell-on fee from any profit. Personal terms are expected to be straightforward.
Eze is expected to play for Palace in their upcoming Conference League playoff first leg and bid farewell to fans after his winning goal in the FA Cup final in May. Once his medical is completed, he will become Arsenal’s seventh signing of the summer.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner praised Eze’s professionalism amid growing transfer speculation. Meanwhile, Arsenal face uncertainty with Havertz still recovering, leaving Viktor Gyökeres as their only fully fit striker. Arteta has expressed confidence that Havertz will recover in time to contribute alongside Gyökeres in pre-season.
Arsenal have already invested nearly £200 million this summer and are looking to offload fringe players before the transfer window closes. Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko are attracting interest from Porto and Italian clubs, while Reiss Nelson could return to Fulham. The signing of Eze may also accelerate Arsenal’s attempts to move Leandro Trossard.
