A pedestrian is in hospital with critical injuries after being struck by a car in Leicestershire, prompting an urgent witness appeal from police .
Emergency services were called to Uppingham Road in Thurnby, near the junction with Anthony Drive, just before 19:30 GMT on Thursday following reports of a collision involving a silver Mercedes C Class and a pedestrian .
The victim, a man in his 30s, was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition, police confirmed .
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and detectives are now working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision .
Detective Constable Maddie Hayes, from Leicestershire Police’s serious collision investigation unit, has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
“I’d like to speak to anyone who saw what happened and particularly any motorists with a dashcam in their vehicle,” she said .
The incident is the latest in a series of serious collisions involving pedestrians across the country in recent days. In a separate incident in Leicester on Tuesday, a man in his 50s was seriously injured after being hit by a blue Nissan Micra outside a shop in Braunstone, with a 26-year-old man arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving .
In Wirral on Monday night, a man in his 70s remains in a critical condition after being struck by a silver Vauxhall Mokka on the A41 New Chester Road in Eastham, with an 85-year-old driver arrested . Meanwhile in Coventry, a woman suffered potentially serious injuries after being hit by a car on Browns Lane in Allesley on Sunday evening , with police confirming the driver fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended .
Surrey Police are also investigating a separate incident in which a man in his 20s suffered life-threatening injuries following a collision with a white BMW at Hickley’s Corner in Farnham on Tuesday evening .
Anyone with information about the Thurnby incident is urged to contact Leicestershire Police, while motorists with dashcam footage are particularly encouraged to come forward as enquiries continue .
