A 17‑year‑old girl was seriously injured after being shot in both legs in what police are describing as a targeted attack in the Toxteth area of Liverpool on Thursday afternoon. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after reports of gunfire in a residential street, with Merseyside Police launching an immediate investigation into the incident.
Officers attended alongside paramedics, who provided first‑aid treatment before the teenage victim was taken to hospital. Police have confirmed that the shooting was not random and are treating it as a deliberate act directed at the victim or another individual present at the time. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the motive and identify those responsible.
The surrounding area was cordoned off as detectives carried out forensic examinations and interviewed residents and potential witnesses. Local transport and pedestrians were briefly affected while the scene was secured. Police appealed for anyone with information, CCTV footage or mobile recordings from the area around the time of the attack to come forward to assist with their enquiries.
Earlier incidents in the wider Merseyside region have seen police responding to serious violent attacks in recent years, intensifying public concern about gun crime and safety on city streets. Investigators say the current case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle armed criminal activity.
