Interestingly, in 2024 Karan Johar had made headlines by selling a 50% stake in his production company Dharma Productions to billionaire Adar Poonawalla, India’s leading vaccine maker, for $119 million, further illustrating the intersection of business and entertainment in India’s evolving economy.

India’s billionaire count has crossed 350 this year, with industrial titans Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani continuing to dominate the top two spots. However, the inclusion of Shah Rukh Khan on this exclusive list demonstrates that the cultural economy of films, sports, and entertainment can now stand alongside heavy industries, finance, and technology in driving India’s new era of wealth creation.
