Teenage Victim Identified as Community Mourns Stabbing Death

The community is in mourning following the tragic death of 15-year-old Darweish Mohamed, a student at Mount Ridley College, who was fatally stabbed in an incident that has sent shockwaves through Melbourne’s north. On Wednesday evening, at approximately 7:50 PM, the teenager was discovered with critical wounds in the car park of the Craigieburn Community Hospital. Despite the immediate and valiant efforts of hospital staff and emergency responders who performed CPR, the boy could not be saved and died at the scene. The investigation into his death has since escalated into a significant police operation, with a total of three teenagers now facing murder charges.

The alleged attack is believed to have involved a group of up to 14 youths near the Craigieburn Central Shopping Centre before the victim was left near the medical facility. In the wake of the incident, investigators have linked a burnt-out vehicle found at Oaklands Junction to the crime. Police acted swiftly, conducting a series of raids that led to multiple arrests. A 16-year-old boy from the Goulburn Valley was the first to be charged with murder, followed by a 15-year-old boy from Craigieburn. By Friday evening, a third suspect—a 14-year-old from the Hume area—was also taken into custody and charged with murder. All three teenagers are scheduled to face appearances in the children’s court. Additionally, a 15-year-old girl from Fawkner has been charged with affray and the theft of a motor vehicle, while a 20-year-old man from Beveridge faces charges related to criminal damage by fire.

Tributes have begun to appear at the site of the tragedy, with flowers and notes left by friends and community members. One poignant message left on a nearby bench asked, “When will these postcode wars end?”—a reflection of the growing anxiety within the community regarding youth violence and gang-related tensions. The victim’s family, devastated by the loss, has requested privacy while expressing their grief. A friend of the family, Mohamed Bakhit, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with the substantial funeral costs, which has garnered widespread support, raising over $54,000 as of Saturday morning. The fundraiser encourages those who cannot contribute financially to keep Darweish and his family in their du’as, or prayers.

Victoria’s education department has confirmed that it is providing support to Mount Ridley College and other affected school communities. A spokesperson for the department described the death as a “tragedy” and acknowledged the deep distress the violent incident has caused within the local area. As the legal proceedings unfold, the broader community remains gripped by the senseless nature of the attack. With three teenagers now facing the most serious of charges, the case has sparked intense debate over youth crime levels and the effectiveness of current measures to prevent such violence. For now, however, the focus remains on the grieving family and the collective mourning of a young life cut short.
