Police have made a second arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of a 26‑year‑old father in his home in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, as detectives continue to piece together what led to the targeted killing late last year. The victim, identified as Jordan Gray, was found with a gunshot wound inside his flat on Shields Court after officers were alerted to the incident on the night of 14 December 2025.
Initial enquiries by Police Scotland resulted in the arrest and subsequent charging of a 58‑year‑old man in early March on suspicion of murder. He appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where formal proceedings began in relation to Gray’s death. Investigators said the case remains complex and that enquiries would continue with the involvement of specialist teams.
On Thursday, officers confirmed that a second individual has been arrested as part of the ongoing probe into the shooting. Police have not disclosed the identity of the person arrested or detailed their alleged involvement. Detectives reiterated that the investigation is active, urging anyone with information or footage that could assist to come forward.
Gray’s death prompted a wider community appeal shortly after the incident, with his family describing the killing as having occurred in “cold blood” and urging local residents to help police identify those responsible. In the weeks that followed, law enforcement conducted extensive door‑to‑door enquiries and reviewed hours of CCTV footage as part of efforts to locate the firearm used and establish the motive for the attack.
The shooting, which has deeply affected the local community, highlights ongoing concerns in North Lanarkshire about firearm‑related violence and the challenges faced by investigators in securing justice for victims of such offences. Police Scotland continues to treat the death as a targeted act, and colleagues from major crime units remain involved.
