Storm Dave has caused widespread disruption across road and rail networks, with strong winds and heavy rainfall leading to delays, cancellations, and hazardous travel conditions in several parts of the country.

Transport operators reported reduced services on key rail routes due to debris on tracks, flooding in low-lying areas, and precautionary speed restrictions introduced for safety reasons. Some regional lines experienced temporary suspensions while engineers carried out inspections and clearance work.

On the roads, authorities warned of difficult driving conditions, particularly on exposed bridges and motorway stretches affected by high winds. Fallen trees and surface water led to partial closures and slower traffic flow in affected regions.

The storm also impacted ferry services in coastal areas, with several sailings cancelled or delayed as maritime conditions deteriorated. Aviation schedules experienced minor disruptions, though most major airports continued to operate with limited delays.

The Met Office confirmed that Storm Dave brought gusts exceeding seasonal averages, alongside periods of intense rainfall. However, forecasters said the system is now gradually weakening as it moves away, with conditions expected to improve steadily over the next 24 to 48 hours.

A spokesperson advised the public to remain cautious, noting that residual hazards such as flooding and debris may persist even after wind speeds decrease. Local authorities have been working to clear blocked roads and restore normal transport operations.

Rail operators said services are expected to return to normal gradually, although some delays may continue while safety inspections are completed. Passengers were advised to check for updates before travelling.

Emergency services reported multiple call-outs related to fallen trees, minor structural damage, and weather-related road incidents, but no major injuries have been confirmed at this stage.

As conditions ease, attention is shifting to recovery efforts and the clearing of affected transport corridors. Officials have emphasised that while the worst of the storm has passed, caution remains necessary until full normality is restored.
