Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has named his squad for the club’s opening Premier League match of the season, as they welcome promoted Burnley to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The north London side come into the game following a thrilling UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain in Udine on Wednesday, which ended 2-2 before Spurs narrowly lost on penalties.
Frank has made three adjustments to the starting XI as he balances the demands of domestic and European fixtures. The manager indicated that several players have recovered well from the midweek exertions, allowing Tottenham to return to a back-four formation for better control and dominance in possession.
Micky van de Ven will start once again, providing stability in defence, while Dominic Solanke remains among the substitutes after an ankle injury prevented his inclusion in the starting line-up. Richarlison retains his place upfront, supported by Brennan Johnson, Archie Gray, and Lucas Bergvall, who are introduced into the team. Rodrigo Bentancur, Joao Palhinha, and Kevin Danso make way from the previous matchday squad.
Tottenham’s confirmed lineup sees Vicario in goal, with a back four of Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, and Spence. The midfield features Gray and Sarr, while the attacking trio comprises Kudus, Bergvall, and Johnson behind Richarlison. The substitutes include Danso, Palhinha, Tel, Vuskovic, Solanke, Odobert, Bentancur, Kinsky, and Davies.
The Premier League opener offers Spurs the chance to build momentum after their near-miss in the UEFA Super Cup and set a strong tone for the season ahead. Burnley, managed by Scott Parker, arrive looking to make a statement in the top flight, ensuring a competitive contest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
