As Iran’s missile and drone barrage across the Gulf continues in response to joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran, many British nationals in Dubai have found themselves caught up in the escalating conflict but are striving to remain composed, with some described as being “in good spirits” despite the disruption. Thousands of Britons currently in the United Arab Emirates have seen their travel plans upended by closed airspace and widespread flight cancellations, leading to unprecedented disruption across the region.
One man from East Hampshire, in the UK, told local media that he and his group were trying to stay positive even after their hotel in Dubai was affected by the recent strikes. He described how Dubai authorities and hotel staff were supporting residents and visitors, enabling them to cope with the uncertainty about when they might be able to return home. Although the noise from intercepted missiles and defensive actions was “thrilling and unnerving,” he said the group was maintaining good spirits and making the best of the situation while awaiting clearer travel options.
British officials have acknowledged the scale of the challenge for UK citizens in the region, with rapid deployment teams sent to assist nationals and the Foreign Office urging travellers to follow safety guidance and shelter where necessary until conditions improve. With approximately 240,000 Britons registered in Dubai alone, evacuation logistics remain complex amid ongoing missile threats and airport closures.
The UK government has also issued repeated advisories encouraging British citizens in the UAE and neighbouring Gulf states to shelter in place and follow local authority instructions as Iran’s strikes have damaged infrastructure including airports, commercial hubs, and hotels. Despite the incidents and the broader geopolitical upheaval, many Britons on the ground are showing perseverance and resilience, continuing daily routines where possible and sharing scenes of solidarity online.
