In addition to her work as a stylist for Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian, Jen Atkin founded her own brand, Ouai, in 2016.
Atkin wanted to convey a fuss-free and streamlined approach to haircare with her brand, shaking off unrealistic Instagram expectations and embracing a more natural confidence.
Ouai’s range of products includes shampoos, conditioners, and hair oils, alongside scalp serums, leave-in conditioners, and hair glosses to suit different hair types. There are shampoos for thinning hair, curl creams for afro and coily hair, and anti-dandruff and frizz-fighting formulas.
The brand’s recognisable packaging is minimalist and sleek, the kind of bottles you want displayed in your bathroom, while refillable sachets help reduce waste. All products are lightly fragranced, with scents so popular that Ouai has recently launched a fragrance line.
With over 50 million views on TikTok, Ouai is no stranger to going viral. Its detox shampoo and St Barts hair and body mist are among the brand’s buzziest products, widely loved online.
However, with haircare starting from £26, Ouai products aren’t the cheapest. That’s why the Black Friday beauty sales are perfect timing for a treat. My favourites are now reduced, offering a chance to snap up bestselling items without breaking the bank.
I tested Ouai’s range over several weeks, swapping my usual haircare for the detox shampoo, medium conditioner, hair oil, leave-in conditioner, hair gloss, and hair and body mist. For context, my hair is frizz-prone and my scalp tends to be dry. Considering ease of application, the feel on my hair, and the overall results, here’s my verdict.
The detox shampoo lathers easily and leaves hair feeling noticeably cleaner without stripping natural oils. Its gentle formulation is perfect for routine use, especially for hair prone to product buildup.
The medium conditioner provided hydration without weighing my hair down, smoothing frizz and adding subtle shine. I particularly noticed the difference after using the leave-in conditioner, which helped tame flyaways and made combing through wet hair effortless.
Ouai’s hair oil is lightweight yet nourishing. A few drops applied to damp hair kept it soft and manageable, while adding a healthy glow by the evening. For finishing, the hair gloss boosted shine and subtly enhanced colour, giving hair a salon-like finish at home.
Finally, the St Barts hair and body mist was a treat for both senses and hair. The scent is uplifting and not overpowering, leaving a light fragrance that lasts throughout the day, complementing other styling products beautifully.
Overall, Ouai offers a haircare routine that balances effectiveness with indulgence. Its products feel premium, perform reliably, and are easy to incorporate into any regimen. With the current Black Friday reductions, it’s the perfect moment to explore the brand or restock favourites.
Whether you’re seeking frizz control, shine, or simply a more enjoyable daily haircare experience, Ouai’s products deliver noticeable results without overcomplicating your routine.
