The United States women’s ice hockey team have clinched Olympic gold, defeating arch‑rivals Canada 2–1 in an electrifying overtime finish at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan. The dramatic victory marked the U.S. team’s third Olympic title in women’s ice hockey and their first since 2018.
Trailing 1–0 for much of the final at the Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena, the Americans mounted a late comeback when captain Hilary Knight scored with just over two minutes left in regulation to force sudden‑death overtime. Knight’s goal was a historic moment — setting a new U.S. Olympic record for career goals.
In the extra period, Megan Keller seized the moment, scoring the gold medal‑winning goal to seal the 2–1 victory and send fans into jubilation. Keller’s strike at 4:07 into overtime ended Canada’s hopes and etched another memorable chapter in the storied rivalry between the two hockey superpowers.
The final showcased elite goaltending and tense, physical play. Canada had opened the scoring in the second period with a short‑handed goal, but the resilient U.S. squad fought back when it mattered most. The Americans closed the tournament undefeated, showcasing depth, skill and championship poise throughout.
The win prompted celebrations from teammates, fans, and alumni alike as the U.S. team lifted the coveted gold medals in front of a roaring crowd and global television audience. The triumph reinforced the United States’ status as a dominant force in women’s ice hockey on the world stage.
