The new 2026 Actor Awards — the rebranded version of the long‑running Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards — took centre stage this week in a celebration of outstanding performances in film and television. Hosted by Kristen Bell at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the ceremony showcased a mix of veteran talent and rising stars, with critics already hailing many wins as indicators of the forthcoming Oscars race.
At the top of the night’s honours was the supernatural thriller Sinners, which swept major film categories. Michael B. Jordan won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his dual portrayal in the film, while Sinners also claimed Best Cast in a Motion Picture, underscoring its critical impact. Jessie Buckley took home Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work in Hamnet, continuing her award‑season success.
Supporting performances also earned acclaim. Amy Madigan won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for Weapons, delighting audiences with her acceptance that included a dramatic callback to her character’s on‑screen energy. Sean Penn was recognised as Best Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another, and the late Catherine O’Hara received a posthumous award for her role in The Studio, which also won Best Comedy Ensemble.
Television honours spanned drama and comedy. Apple TV+’s The Pitt won Best Drama Ensemble, with Noah Wyle earning individual recognition, while The Studio dominated comedy categories. Young star Owen Cooper received the award for his breakout performance in a limited series, and Michelle Williams was named for her work in Dying For Sex. Standout turn Keri Russell also took home a lead award for The Diplomat.
A highlight of the evening was the Life Achievement Award presented to Harrison Ford, acknowledging his decades‑long contribution to film. The show once again streamed live on Netflix, drawing widespread viewer engagement around global red‑carpet and awards results.
Ahead of the ceremony, nominations had spotlighted One Battle After Another as the film with the most nods in motion picture categories, and television entries such as The Studio and Adolescence topped the small‑screen fields, setting high expectations for winners.
This year’s Actor Awards — now firmly distinguished from their SAG past but maintaining the same peer‑voted prestige — reflected both acclaimed artistic achievements and an entertainment industry full of competitive performances that are shaping the 2026 awards season narrative.
