Nearly two decades after the 2006 blockbuster, fans have had their first glimpse of the highly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, courtesy of a teaser trailer that has already sparked excitement across social media. Iconic fashion villain Miranda Priestly is back, striding through her office in a pair of red Valentino Rockstud heels, reminding viewers that some things never change.
The brief trailer shows Meryl Streep’s character stalking the office with her usual icy elegance, joined by Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs in the lift. “Miranda,” Andy says. “Took you long enough,” comes Miranda’s signature deadpan retort. The scene is a nostalgic nod to the dynamic that made the original film so beloved, blending sharp wit with high-fashion drama.
Several original cast members return, including Emily Blunt as Emily, Stanley Tucci as Nigel, director David Frankel, and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. Kenneth Branagh is set to play Miranda Priestly’s husband, adding a new dimension to her character. One notable absence is Nate, Andy’s boyfriend from the first film, who fans may remember as a divisive character.
The original 2006 movie, adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 bestseller, told the story of Andy Sachs, a personal assistant to a demanding fashion magazine editor. Set against the high-pressure backdrop of New York fashion, the film explored ambition, sacrifice, and the relentless demands of the industry. Weisberger, who once worked for Anna Wintour at Vogue, is widely believed to have drawn inspiration for Miranda from the editor herself, though Wintour has claimed she has no recollection of the author working for her.
While details of the sequel remain scarce, it is thought the movie may draw from Weisberger’s 2013 follow-up, Revenge Wears Prada. The teaser hints at Andy and Miranda reluctantly working together again, with the sequel promising to maintain the stylish spectacle that defined the original. Outfits spotted on filming in New York have already gone viral, underscoring the film’s continued fashion credibility.
Set a decade after the events of the first book, Andy is now 30 and a successful editor at a bridal fashion magazine, launched with her former nemesis turned friend, Emily Charlton. On the cusp of marriage, starting a family, and at the peak of her career, Andy cannot escape the shadow of her former boss. Their paths cross when Runway’s publishing company seeks to acquire Andy’s magazine, The Plunge. In a role reversal, Miranda attempts to woo Andy and Emily into selling out, flipping the power dynamic of the first film.
Early reports suggest the sequel will focus on Miranda navigating her career in an era where print publishing is in decline. Emily’s character is said to be a high-powered executive in the movie, with Miranda seeking advertising revenue from her. While the film may borrow themes from Weisberger’s second book, it appears to be charting a new course, promising surprises even for long-time fans.
The sequel is slated for release on Friday, 1 May 2026, giving audiences months to speculate and anticipate the return of one of cinema’s most memorable duos. If the teaser trailer is any indication, Miranda Priestly and her devilish heels are ready to reclaim the spotlight.
