Barcelona Come From Behind to Defeat Atletico Madrid 3-1

Barcelona opened up a four-point lead at the top of La Liga after coming from behind to defeat Atletico Madrid 3-1 at the Nou Camp. Raphinha equalised after Alex Baena’s early opener, before Dani Olmo’s clever finish turned the match in Barcelona’s favour. Ferran Torres sealed the win with a late third goal.

Earlier in the season, Barcelona had trailed league leaders Real Madrid by five points following a 2-1 defeat in El Clasico in October. Five games later, Barcelona now enjoy a buffer at the top, having played one game more than Los Blancos, who travel to Bilbao to face Athletic Club on Wednesday.

Atletico Madrid took the lead in the 19th minute when Baena capitalised on a long ball over Barcelona’s high defensive line, rounding goalkeeper Joan Garcia with a dinked finish. Despite an assistant referee’s offside flag, the goal was confirmed after a VAR check.

Seven minutes later, Raphinha restored parity by running onto a precise through ball from Pedri, rounding Jan Oblak and slotting into an empty net. Barcelona dominated the remainder of the first half and were awarded a penalty when Pablo Barrios fouled Olmo, but Robert Lewandowski’s effort sailed over the crossbar.

The second half featured end-to-end action, and Barcelona took the lead when Olmo dribbled past defenders before placing a shot into the bottom corner. Atletico should have equalised when Thiago Almada missed an open goal after beating Garcia, but Torres ensured victory with a close-range finish following Alejandro Balde’s cross.

Victory for Barcelona was slightly marred by a shoulder injury sustained by Olmo during his goal, as well as glaring missed opportunities from Lewandowski and Raphinha. Nonetheless, the win strengthens Barcelona’s position atop La Liga and underscores their resilience under Hansi Flick.
