Jordan Bardella, the young face of France’s National Rally, has undergone a noticeable makeover. With a neat haircut, sharply tailored suits, glasses, and light stubble, his new look is designed to modernize a historically far-right and controversial political brand while downplaying his youth. At only 30 years old, Bardella has limited life experience outside politics, yet polls suggest he could become France’s next president in 2027 if trends hold.
His strong social media presence, boasting 1.2 million Instagram followers and 2.2 million on TikTok, is attracting a youth following that feels represented by the 30-year-old politician. “We feel like he’s there for us,” said a young admirer during a stop on his national book tour, where fans queued for hours for selfies and signed copies. Bardella capitalizes on these interactions, knowing that each post shared online serves as free campaign promotion.
However, his rise is not without opposition. Many view the National Rally as a toxic brand, and Bardella has faced public criticism, including a recent attack by a 17-year-old who threw flour at him during a market visit. The incident was quickly handled by security, and Bardella’s social media channels made no mention of it, maintaining the polished image cultivated by his team.
Bardella has spent almost his entire life in politics, joining National Rally at 16 and leaving university early. Critics cite his lack of professional experience outside politics as a weakness, though he dismisses such concerns with well-rehearsed responses. His youth, savvy online strategy, and careful rebranding have propelled him to the forefront of French politics, making him a figure to watch as the 2027 presidential election approaches.
