On the second day of the unfolding conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran, retaliatory military actions and fresh strikes have continued amid mounting regional instability. What began as a coordinated campaign by U.S. and Israeli forces against Iranian military and leadership targets has evolved into a broader cascade of attacks and reprisal missions across the Middle East. The situation remains highly fluid, with combat operations ongoing on both fronts.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced continued waves of “extensive missile and drone” attacks on both Israeli and U.S. military assets in the region, marking a sustained response to strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior figures. State media reported that Iranian forces targeted multiple U.S. bases and facilities, along with locations within Israel, as part of their retaliation for what Tehran has described as an unprovoked assault on its sovereignty.
Late on Sunday morning, explosions and intercept blasts were reported above Qatar, where U.S. and allied forces maintain a significant military presence, and in parts of Oman’s Duqm region, where missiles reportedly struck a commercial port area and injured at least one person. Gulf Arab states hosting U.S. military assets—including Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates—also grappled with incoming threats, triggering air-defence responses and raising alarm among civilian populations.
Israeli military forces resumed air and missile strikes deep into Iranian territory early on the second day, targeting ballistic missile arrays, air defence systems, command centres and other strategic installations identified as part of Iran’s war infrastructure. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said operations are intended to degrade Tehran’s capacity to project force and sustain its retaliation.
U.S. President Donald Trump declared that “heavy and pinpoint bombing” operations would continue throughout the week or “as long as necessary,” framing the campaign as a defence of American national security and regional stability. He reiterated that the offensive’s objective is to prevent further threats emanating from Iran’s leadership and military capabilities.
The escalating conflict has provoked international concern. Governments across Europe, the United Nations and multiple diplomatic actors have called for restraint and an immediate cessation of hostilities to avert a wider conflagration affecting civilians and global security. Some nations have reiterated their readiness to support defensive measures for allied states, while also urging diplomatic engagement to address the crisis.
On the ground in the region, heightened alerts and defensive postures have been implemented by countries caught in the crossfire. The UK reported missiles fired toward bases in Cyprus, and security alerts were raised at sensitive locations in the United States itself, as agencies prepared for potential retaliatory threats linked to pro-Iranian factions.
As military actions and counter-actions continue into the second day, analysts emphasise the unpredictability of the situation and the real risk of deeper regional escalation. Both Washington and Tehran have articulated hardened positions, while ordinary civilians across Iran, the Gulf and Israel face heightened danger and uncertainty amid intensifying strikes and reprisals.
