Quentin Griffiths, the 58-year-old co-founder of online fashion giant Asos, has died after falling from the balcony of his high-rise apartment in Pattaya, Thailand, Thai authorities confirmed. The British entrepreneur was discovered on the ground below his 17th-floor unit on 9 February 2026, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances of his death.
Police said Griffiths, a British passport holder, was alone in his condominium when the incident occurred, and that the room was locked from the inside with no signs of forced entry. An initial autopsy did not indicate evidence of foul play, though investigators have not ruled out any possibility until a full post-mortem examination is completed.
Griffiths co-founded Asos in 2000 alongside Nick Robertson and Andrew Regan. The online retailer quickly expanded into one of the UK’s leading fashion platforms, serving millions of customers worldwide and making its founders significant figures in the ecommerce boom. After stepping down from an executive role in 2005, Griffiths remained a major shareholder and benefitted from share sales as the company grew in value.
At the time of his death, Griffiths was reportedly involved in two ongoing legal cases in Thailand that authorities suggested may have been a source of stress. Details about those cases include a financial dispute with his former Thai wife, who accused him of misappropriating funds and forging documents tied to their jointly run business. Griffiths denied those claims and was released after police questioning.
Born in the UK, Griffiths lived in Thailand for nearly two decades after moving there around 2007. He is survived by his children, whom he leaves behind as authorities and the British Foreign Office continue to support his family while cooperating with Thai investigators.
The investigation into the exact cause and circumstances of his fall is ongoing, with officials awaiting further forensic results and a full post-mortem report. The global fashion and business communities have expressed condolences following the news of his unexpected death.
