On the fourth day of the ongoing Middle East war, the Israeli military launched renewed strikes on Tehran and expanded air operations in Beirut as hostilities continued to widen following earlier U.S.–Israeli attacks on Iranian targets. Israeli forces said the latest operations in the Iranian capital form part of what they describe as an offensive campaign against threats posed by Iran and its regional allies, although precise target details remain limited.
In Beirut, Israeli strikes hit positions linked to Hezbollah, the Iran‑aligned militia that has engaged Israeli forces with rocket and drone exchanges since the conflict escalated. Lebanese health authorities reported that dozens of people were killed and many others wounded during attacks in southern Beirut and surrounding areas, prompting large‑scale displacement.
The conflict’s regional scope has broad implications. Iranian‑backed groups and Iran itself continue missile and drone operations targeting Israel, Gulf states hosting U.S. forces, and allied assets across the Middle East. This includes strikes on bases and installations in countries such as Saudi Arabia and Cyprus, further deepening instability.
The United States and Israel initiated major combat operations earlier this week, seeking to degrade Iran’s missile infrastructure and command centres. Iranian leadership has refused talks and maintained that its strikes are defensive responses to what it deems unprovoked aggression.
The situation remains highly fluid. Allied statements from both Washington and Tel Aviv emphasise readiness for continued operations, while diplomatic efforts to rein in escalation have yet to produce an effective ceasefire. Civilian populations in Iran, Lebanon and neighbouring states are bearing the brunt of the expanded war, with hundreds killed and critical infrastructure damaged.
