The much-anticipated new season of Celebrity Traitors is finally here. Over the coming weeks, audiences will watch a group of famous personalities enter the iconic Traitors’ castle, where deception, strategy, and suspense rule. The contestants must navigate alliances and betrayals in pursuit of a £100,000 prize fund, which will be awarded to a charity of the winner’s choice. The twist: three of the celebrities are secretly designated as Traitors, whose mission is to ‘murder’ a contestant each night without being discovered, all while the others try to unmask them before the finale.
This season’s celebrity line-up is star-studded, featuring household names such as Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie, Paloma Faith, Jonathan Ross, Tom Daley, Clare Balding, and Alan Carr. Among them is Ruth Codd, an Irish actress who has swiftly become a rising star thanks to her work in Netflix productions like The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Ruth Codd hails from Wexford, Ireland. Her early years were marked by an active lifestyle, including horse riding and football. However, her life took a dramatic turn at the age of 15 when she suffered a serious accident. In an interview with the Irish Examiner, she reflected on the long-term impact: “It never healed correctly so until I was 23, I was on and off crutches, getting loads of operations.”
Her struggle with nerve damage and chronic pain ultimately led to a life-changing decision: amputation. “Because of nerve damage and chronic pain, I chose to get it amputated. It took eight years of my life, constantly going in and out of the hospital… my whole life revolved around trying to heal my leg. For years, I didn’t see it getting any better. I was stuck in a really bad mindset and I was p****d off at life,” she explained candidly.
Reflecting on the accident, she added with characteristic honesty: “When I made the decision to amputate it, things finally started to turn around. It was a relief. I could get on with my life. I was just messing around in school and fell over playing soccer, which is the worst part because I don’t even like soccer. At least I could have gone out in a blaze of glory doing something that I loved, but – no!”
Before stepping into acting, Ruth trained as a professional makeup artist and barber. The Covid-19 pandemic, however, disrupted her career, prompting her to explore TikTok as a creative outlet. Initially, she posted comedic skits, including dressing up as a nun, before shifting her focus to disability awareness content. Her videos quickly struck a chord with viewers, attracting over 672,000 followers in just one year.
Ruth’s online presence eventually caught the attention of Netflix casting directors. Despite having no formal acting experience, she was scouted for The Midnight Club, where her natural talent and screen presence impressed audiences. She later appeared in The Fall of the House of Usher, solidifying her reputation as a promising new talent in the industry.
Ruth Codd’s journey—from a TikTok creator to a celebrated Netflix actress—is a story of resilience, creativity, and determination. Her personal experiences with adversity have not only shaped her career but also made her a relatable figure and a voice for disability awareness. Now, as she joins the high-stakes environment of Celebrity Traitors, viewers will witness her intelligence, strategic thinking, and authenticity as she navigates a game built on deception and trust.
Whether she emerges as a formidable player or a surprising underdog, Ruth’s presence on the show embodies perseverance and courage. Her story resonates far beyond the castle walls, offering inspiration and insight into how challenges can be transformed into opportunities for growth, creativity, and success.
As the series unfolds, audiences will follow Ruth’s journey with anticipation, eager to see how her wit, charm, and resilience play out in a game where every alliance could be a trap and every decision could mean the difference between victory and elimination.
