The new Oura Ring 5 represents a truly remarkable evolutionary step forward for wearable technology. This innovative device fundamentally changes how we view wellness monitors by shrinking everything down significantly. Previous iterations of smart rings always felt somewhat bulky and noticeable on a human finger. This latest version finally matches the precise dimensions and lightweight feel of traditional wedding bands. You can honestly forget that you are wearing a highly advanced piece of modern equipment.

Consumers must prepare for a premium financial investment if they want this elegant tracking device. The base model launches at a retail price of three hundred and ninety-nine pounds. International buyers will pay three hundred and ninety-nine euros or American dollars for it. Furthermore, users must factor in a necessary ongoing monthly subscription to access your metrics. This essential membership costs five pounds and ninety-nine pence every month for full access. Without this subscription, you will only receive very basic daily scores on your smartphone.

Oura engineers achieved a miraculous forty percent reduction in overall volume compared to predecessors. The width of this band now measures just slightly over six millimetres in total. The thickness sits at an impressively slim two point twenty-eight millimetres across the chassis. Crucially, the entire unit weighs a mere two grams, depending on your size. It gracefully avoids catching on your trouser pockets during ordinary movements throughout the day. The smooth edges do not dig into adjacent fingers when you squeeze hands tight. Carrying heavy shopping bags or lifting weights at the gym causes zero physical discomfort. It looks far less like a piece of clinical technology than its immediate predecessor. However, this understated appearance means it will likely spark fewer conversations with curious friends.

The internal sensors continuously record your heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and skin temperature. They also monitor physical motion to compile over fifty distinct metrics regarding your health. The titanium exterior comes in six attractive colours and finishes to suit personal style. Oura applies a harder, more scratch-resistant coating to keep the device looking completely new. During extensive testing, the classic black model retained its beautiful, unblemished surface quite effortlessly. However, it is arguably less durable than the specialized ceramic version of yesteryear’s model.

The company offers a choice of eight distinct sizes ranging from six to thirteen. Oura thoughtfully provides a free plastic sizing kit before you finalize your online order. The actual ring must remain snug to capture high-quality bio-data throughout the entire day. However, it needs enough slack to slide comfortably over your knuckle for weekly charging. You can replenish the power using the included dock or a separate battery case. This optional charging case will cost you an additional ninety-nine pounds at the checkout. Despite the dramatic physical shrinkage, the internal battery life has actually improved quite significantly. The smallest version delivers approximately six days of continuous use on a single charge. Meanwhile, the largest size can last up to an impressive nine days of tracking. The size eight unit tested for this review regularly lasted just under eight days. This represents an incredible two-day improvement over the comparable model from the previous generation.

While the ring collects data, the official smartphone companion application handles all interpretation tasks. This software works smoothly on both Android devices and Apple iPhones via wireless Bluetooth. Although the app is free, the paid subscription unlocks almost all meaningful data analysis. Fortunately, Oura works exceptionally hard to justify this monthly fee by delivering incredible insights. They provide excellent explanations, actionable health advice, and deep overviews of your physiological trends.

The primary dashboard highlights a crucial attribute of your personal wellness when you wake. It might focus on sleep metrics, sudden heart rate variations, or daytime stress indicators. For example, an elevated resting heart rate prompts a helpful suggestion to rest more. The system recognizes signs of physiological stress, upcoming illness, or poor recovery from exercise. Scrolling further down reveals detailed widgets for sleep, stress levels, and historical heart rate.

Moving over to the dedicated vitals tab reveals seven essential health categories for review. Charts clearly display your normal baseline range against your current scores for immediate feedback. Tapping into any specific category unlocks an incredibly detailed breakdown of your biometric information. The final tab presents a long-term view across the core pillars of health over time. It intuitively ranks your current status between needing care and thriving at a glance.

This section includes fascinating proprietary metrics such as your calculated cumulative stress over thirty days. The page also documents personal habits affecting wellness, like step consistency and sleep regularity. The longer you wear this device, the more insightful and valuable the analysis becomes. In terms of exercise, the ring automatically detects more than forty different physical activities. Alternatively, you can manually log a workout using the helpful live activity feature. This feature provides real-time heart rate data directly on your connected smartphone screen. However, the ring requires your phone to map your route or track specific pacing. Consequently, it remains far less capable than dedicated running watches from brands like Garmin.

Oura’s proactive health monitoring features search for tiny deviations in your baseline health metrics. The Symptom Radar tool actively looks for early warning signs of colds or flu. This tool works brilliantly unless you are experiencing major external stressors like raising young children. The advanced Health Radar feature introduces overnight blood pressure estimations and breathing disturbance monitoring tools. These new additions directly mirror advanced wellness capabilities found on the competitive Apple Watch series.

Furthermore, the device offers extensive women’s health tracking tools based on accurate body temperature monitoring. It tracks menstruation cycles, ovulation windows, fertile periods, pregnancy progression, and even vital menopause insights. This data connects seamlessly with specialized third-party software services like Natural Cycles for birth control. Users can also interact with the built-in artificial intelligence health chatbot assistant named Advisor. This digital assistant acts as a personalized health companion rather than a general-purpose knowledge bot. It cannot answer random questions about local weather forecasts or cocktail recipes at all. Instead, it provides tailored advice on personal sleep, recovery, and long-term biometric data trends.

On the negative sustainability front, the device unfortunately cannot be repaired by local technicians. The internal lithium battery is completely non-replaceable, which severely limits the lifespan of the hardware. The current manufacturing process does not incorporate recycled materials, though Oura offers free recycling schemes. The modern Oura Ring 5 is a generational leap that sets a very high bar. It turns a chunky statement ring into a standard band you can always easily forget. The primary issue is that it cannot be repaired, making it an ultimately disposable wearable.
