Two young British mothers are currently fighting for their lives in intensive care in Ibiza after being struck by a car during what was meant to be a joyful holiday. Lauren Holmes, 27, and her close friend Ebony Cordingley, 26, both from Bradford, West Yorkshire, sustained severe injuries in the early hours of Tuesday, 26 August, after a vehicle collided with them on the El-600 road between Ibiza town and San Antonio.
The women, both mothers of young children, suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including brain trauma, fractures, and internal injuries. They were immediately rushed to separate hospitals, with Ebony receiving treatment at the private Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic and Lauren at Ibiza’s main public hospital, Can Misses. Both remain in a “very serious” condition, with doctors working around the clock to stabilize them.
The first photographs of the women following the incident were shared by their families, capturing the gravity of the situation and the heartbreak felt by loved ones. Friends and relatives described what should have been a carefree holiday as having turned into a nightmare. The incident has left both families struggling to navigate the emotional and financial burdens of caring for the injured mothers abroad while supporting their children back home.
A GoFundMe appeal has been launched to assist with the costs of medical care and travel arrangements necessary to provide continuous support. Tyla Gray, a friend of Lauren Holmes, said in a heartfelt appeal: “On what should have been a happy holiday with a friend in Ibiza, our beloved daughter, sister, and friend Lauren was struck by a speeding taxi in the early hours. This sudden and devastating accident has turned our lives upside down. Doctors are doing everything they can, but the reality is her recovery will be long, uncertain, and incredibly difficult. She’s facing multiple injuries, including broken legs, arm, ribs, and internal damage. She is away from her two young children who need her more than ever. We are reaching out with humble hearts to ask for help to get her home and provide the care she so desperately needs.”
Ebony Cordingley’s sister, Shannon, also appealed for support: “This sudden and devastating accident has turned our world upside down. Ebony has a bleed on the brain, bleeding in her lungs, broken and fractured legs, broken ribs, and multiple contusions. She is currently classified as critical. The recovery process will be long and difficult, and our family is committed to supporting her and her three young sons during this frightening time. The costs of medical care abroad and long-term support are overwhelming, and we are appealing for help.”
According to local authorities, the accident involved a Toyota Corolla driven by a 24-year-old Spanish man. The Civil Guard confirmed that the two women were pedestrians at the time of the collision and were not leaving any clubs or under the influence of alcohol. The driver is reported to have passed an initial drink-drive test, though this has not been fully verified by investigators. No arrests have been reported, and the Civil Guard continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Eyewitnesses and family members emphasized the ordinary nature of the women’s activities before the tragedy struck. The two friends had been enjoying simple holiday pleasures—walking in a park, visiting local eateries, and returning to their hotel when they were unexpectedly caught in a devastating accident.
As the investigation continues, both families remain in Ibiza, supporting the women and liaising with authorities and medical staff to ensure they receive the urgent care required. The incident has resonated across social media and communities in the UK, prompting an outpouring of support for the families and their children, who now face a challenging and uncertain period of recovery and rehabilitation.
The English Chronicle Online will continue to provide updates on the condition of Lauren Holmes and Ebony Corrodingly, as well as developments in the ongoing investigation into this tragic accident.
