Bodies of Man and Boy Found in Burnt‑Out Car After Horror Crash in the Highlands

A tragic single‑vehicle collision in the Scottish Highlands has claimed the lives of a 44‑year‑old man and a 16‑year‑old boy, after their car crashed and caught fire in the early hours of Saturday morning, police and emergency crews have confirmed. The incident occurred on the A830 near Corpach, close to Fort William, and has left communities in shock.

Emergency services were alerted to reports of a vehicle fire on the A830 at around 3 a.m. on Saturday, 21 February. Firefighters from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service quickly extinguished the blaze, only to discover the charred bodies of the man and teenage boy inside. Formal identification is yet to be completed, but families of both victims have been informed, police said.

Police Scotland believe the blue Vauxhall Astra was involved in a single‑vehicle crash around 1.45 a.m., before it became engulfed in flames. The A830 — a key road linking Fort William with Mallaig — was closed for more than 12 hours while investigators examined the scene and carried out their enquiries.

In a statement, Sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the people who died in this crash. It’s vital we establish exactly what happened and I’m appealing for anyone with information to come forward.” Officers are urging anyone with dash‑cam or CCTV footage from the area in the early hours to contact Police Scotland, quoting reference 0389 of 21 February.

Road safety campaigners and local residents have expressed their sorrow at the devastating loss of life on a route known for its scenic but challenging driving conditions, especially in the early morning hours. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine the full cause of the crash.
