A teenager is fighting for his life after being shot outside Wembley Stadium in northwest London in the early hours of Sunday morning. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were called to Atlantic Crescent at around 5:30am following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered an 18-year-old male suffering from a gunshot injury.
The victim was immediately transported to a major trauma centre, where he remains in critical condition. Police have informed the teenager’s next of kin and are providing support during this difficult time. No arrests have been made, and inquiries are ongoing, with officers maintaining a presence at the scene as part of a continuing investigation. Wembley’s South Way remains cordoned off.
Chief Superintendent Tony Josephs, from the local policing team in northwest London, emphasised the seriousness of the incident and its impact on the community. “We recognise the shock and impact this incident will have on the community,” he said. “The investigation is in its very early stages, and we are working at pace to establish the full circumstances. There will be an increased police presence in the local area. We urge anyone who may know something about this incident, however small it may seem, to please get in touch and let us know.”
The London Ambulance Service confirmed its response, reporting that crews, including paramedics in fast-response cars, an advanced paramedic, and an incident response officer, were dispatched to the scene. A trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance also attended. A spokesperson said: “We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre.”
The shooting has caused significant disruption to local transport. Transport for London reported that route 440 buses, running between Turnham Green and Wembley First Way, were diverted in both directions due to the police incident. According to TFL, buses towards Wembley terminate at Brent Civic Centre, with no service between Olympic Way and First Way, while buses towards Turnham Green start from Lakeside Way with certain stops suspended.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the police on 101 or online, quoting reference CAD 1343/21SEP. Alternatively, members of the public can provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation as police continue to piece together the events leading to the critical attack.
