Jack Osbourne, the youngest son of legendary heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, has broken his silence to share an emotional tribute to his late father following the star’s funeral in Birmingham. The mournful occasion marked the passing of one of rock’s most influential figures, who died aged 76 after a celebrated career spanning decades.
Ozzy Osbourne passed away on 22 July, shortly after a poignant Black Sabbath reunion concert held in his cherished hometown of Birmingham. Known for his distinctive voice and pioneering work with Black Sabbath, Ozzy’s death left fans and the music world deeply saddened.
In a moving Instagram post, Jack expressed his grief and gratitude, reflecting on the 14,501 days he was fortunate to spend with his father. He quoted Hunter S. Thompson to capture Ozzy’s spirited approach to life: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, ‘Wow! What a ride!’”
Jack described his father as a man who lived life fully and passionately. “He was so many things to so many people, but I was so lucky and blessed to be part of a very small group that got to call him ‘Dad’,” Jack wrote, concluding his heartfelt message with a simple but powerful “I love you dad.”
Ozzy had been battling Parkinson’s disease since 2019 but remained surrounded by family and love at the time of his passing. A statement released by the family emphasized their desire for privacy during this difficult time.
In the days leading up to his father’s death, Jack had shared a cherished family memory from their time on the popular reality TV show The Osbournes. The series, which aired until 2005, offered fans an intimate glimpse into the Osbourne family’s everyday life, capturing their humor and camaraderie. Jack recalled a humorous story about their family home’s previous owner, the former President of the Congo, and a quirky discovery involving campaign T-shirts.
Beyond The Osbournes, Ozzy and Jack appeared in several other shows, including Osbournes Reloaded and Ozzy and Jack’s World Detour, where they explored historical sites together. Most recently, they revisited past moments in The Osbournes – The Basement Tapes, released in 2024.
Earlier this month, Ozzy’s farewell to fans culminated in a memorable Black Sabbath reunion concert at Villa Park, Birmingham. Sitting on a grand black throne, Ozzy performed his final set, sharing the stage with original Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Terence ‘Geezer’ Butler, and Bill Ward in a star-studded lineup.
Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy as the “Prince of Darkness” and a pioneering force in heavy metal endures, with his family and fans worldwide mourning the loss of a true rock legend.
