Newly released emails from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate have revealed Prince Andrew’s exasperation over media reports concerning his ties to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, shedding fresh light on the former royal’s long-standing association with the disgraced financier.
In an email exchange dating back 14 years, Andrew reportedly told Epstein and Maxwell, “I can’t take any more of this,” after being forwarded a “right-of-reply” email from the Mail on Sunday, which detailed allegations about him and his association with the pair. The correspondence was among documents released on Wednesday by Democrats on the US Congressional House Oversight Committee, who are investigating Epstein’s activities following his death in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
The Mail on Sunday had sent the original email to Maxwell in March 2011, outlining claims about Andrew. Andrew’s reply read: “What’s all this? I don’t know anything about this! You must SAY so please. This has NOTHING to do with me. I can’t take any more of this.”
Democratic members of Congress, including Representative Suhas Subramanyam, have requested Andrew to testify remotely about the allegations. Subramanyam noted that Andrew “doesn’t have to get on a plane to testify” and emphasized the importance of his participation.
The emails also include exchanges mentioning Donald Trump, who was referenced several times by Epstein in correspondence with Maxwell. One email from April 2011 states, “I want you to realize that the dog that hasn’t barked is Trump… [VICTIM] spent hours at my house with him.” The White House later clarified that the unnamed “victim” was Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide earlier this year, and affirmed that she had repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing.
Virginia Giuffre had accused Andrew of sexual abuse when she was a teenager, claims he has consistently denied. In 2022, Andrew reached an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre, which included no admission of liability or apology. Earlier this month, Andrew was stripped of all his royal titles following renewed attention on his connection to Epstein and Maxwell after Giuffre’s posthumous memoir was published.
The newly released emails from Epstein’s estate also appear to confirm a photograph showing Andrew with his arm around Giuffre, then 17. In a July 2011 exchange with a journalist, Epstein discussed Giuffre and the photograph with Andrew, writing, “Yes she was on my plane, and yes she had her picture taken with Andrew, as many of my employees have.” Andrew has previously claimed in a 2019 Newsnight interview that he did not recall the photograph being taken and suggested it might be fabricated.
The emails provide a detailed timeline of interactions and allegations. One email from March 2011 describes Giuffre being introduced to Andrew at Maxwell’s London residence in 2001, where she was allegedly coerced into sexual activity. The same email references Epstein’s New York apartment and the Caribbean island of Little St James, claiming that Giuffre was directed to engage in sexual acts with Andrew. Epstein forwarded messages to Andrew, asking if he was “ok” and dismissing the stories as “complete and utter fantasy.”
Other documents reveal Epstein’s communications with his publicist and author Michael Wolff, who has written extensively about Trump. Epstein instructed his associates to investigate Giuffre, stating she “can also easily be proven to be a liar” and suggesting Buckingham Palace would welcome proof of her alleged falsehoods.
In response to the release, House Republicans issued thousands of additional documents, arguing that Democrats had “cherry-picked” materials to misrepresent President Trump. The Democrats are now pursuing a petition, signed by Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva, to compel the US Department of Justice to release the full set of Epstein-related files. The House is expected to hold a vote on this next week.
The released emails underscore the complex and troubling web of interactions between Andrew, Epstein, and Maxwell, highlighting the ongoing public and legal scrutiny surrounding the former prince. They also illustrate the lasting impact of Epstein’s criminal network and the continuing efforts by lawmakers to uncover the full extent of his and his associates’ activities.
For Andrew, the documents reinforce the enduring challenges he faces regarding public perception and the legal implications of his association with Epstein. Observers note that even with the settlement reached with Giuffre, these revelations could lead to renewed investigations and intensified scrutiny by both US and UK authorities.
As Congress continues its examination of Epstein’s estate and connections, the documents may have far-reaching consequences for those implicated, prompting further questions about accountability, transparency, and the role of high-profile individuals in the sex trafficking scandal.
