A bus carrying miners fell into a ditch in the eastern Russian region of Yakutia, killing 13 people and injuring 20 others. The accident occurred at 3:20 a.m. local time on Monday, the Moscow Times reported.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, plunging about 82 feet into a deep ditch, the report said.
Photos released by the local Interior Ministry showed the bus overturned next to a muddy pond.
The accident occurred on an industrial road on the way to the Denisovsky Mining and Processing Plant, a coal mining and production facility. The plant mines and processes coal.
An investigative committee is investigating the incident. The committee will look into whether the accident was caused by negligence or other factors. Authorities have also declared a day of mourning in the region on Tuesday..
