Heartfelt tributes have poured in after two young friends from Norfolk were tragically found dead on a hiking expedition on Yr Wyddfa, the highest peak in the Eryri (Snowdonia) mountain range in North Wales. The pair, 19‑year‑old Jayden Long and 20‑year‑old Eddie Hill, were reported missing on 18 February after failing to return from their trek, prompting an extensive search by rescue teams.
North Wales Police said the pair’s bodies were discovered on Thursday following a major multi‑agency search involving Llanberis and Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Teams, RAF mountain rescue units, search dogs and an HM Coastguard helicopter. The search continued into difficult winter conditions before the bodies were recovered.
Family and friends have taken to social media to remember Jayden and Eddie as kind, caring and deeply loved individuals who died “doing something they loved.” Jayden’s younger sister, Jodie Long, described her brother as “amazing, kind and caring,” saying: “He was doing something he loved and was taken from us too soon and he will be forever missed.”
Jayden’s aunt also shared photos and memories of him with loved ones, calling him a wonderful big brother, son, grandson and cousin. “I feel so lucky to have had lots of wonderful memories with you,” she wrote, reflecting on joyful moments including standing by her at her wedding.
Eddie’s brother, Harry Hill, paid tribute to his sibling, describing him as a “beautiful and beloved” older brother with big plans for his future. “Words cannot describe the pain that me and my family and friends are going through at the moment,” he said, sharing his heartbreak over the loss.
Friends also expressed profound grief, recalling the pair as “the most amazing and beautiful people in my life” and lamenting that they would never grow old together as they had once hoped. Many highlighted how much both Jayden and Eddie meant to their circle of friends and family.
North Wales Police confirmed that the two men have been formally identified and that the coroner has been notified. The force appealed for privacy for the families as they continue to grieve.
