Watchdog Raises Questions Over Andrew Rentals

Prince Andrew is facing renewed scrutiny after a watchdog investigation alleged that cottages connected to the Royal Lodge estate were being sub-let to outside tenants under unclear arrangements.

The report, released on Thursday, claimed that several residential properties within the Windsor estate linked to Royal Lodge may have been rented privately despite ongoing public concerns surrounding the Duke of York’s financial situation and royal housing arrangements.

Investigators reportedly examined tenancy agreements, estate management records and property usage linked to cottages located on land associated with Royal Lodge, Prince Andrew’s long-time residence.

The watchdog raised concerns over whether all rental arrangements had been fully disclosed and whether any income generated from the properties complied with estate rules and lease obligations.

Royal Lodge, situated within Windsor Great Park, has remained a subject of public debate in recent years as questions persisted regarding Prince Andrew’s security, maintenance costs and continued occupation of the large estate despite his withdrawal from public royal duties.

Sources close to the Duke denied any misconduct and insisted all property-related arrangements were handled legally through private agreements consistent with lease conditions.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment directly on the findings, maintaining that the matter concerns private residency arrangements rather than official royal operations.

Critics argue the allegations could intensify demands for greater transparency surrounding royal finances and property management, particularly at a time of growing public pressure over institutional accountability.

Constitutional experts say the controversy may also place additional pressure on King Charles III as the monarchy continues efforts to modernise its public image and reduce financial criticism.

Prince Andrew has remained largely absent from official royal life following a series of controversies that significantly damaged his public standing in recent years.

The latest revelations are expected to fuel further political and media scrutiny over the management of royal estates and private leasing arrangements connected to members of the Royal Family.
