Police in Lancashire have confirmed that human remains uncovered by builders in Lytham may belong to children, prompting a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery. The remains were found on 15 August at a property on Cleveland Road when construction workers, engaged in renovations, came across what appeared to be bones and promptly alerted local authorities at 12:37 pm.
Fylde police officers quickly responded to the scene and, after preliminary examination, confirmed the remains were indeed human. Investigators noted that while the remains could be those of children, there is no immediate indication of criminal activity. Officers believe the find may relate to an isolated historical burial, rather than a contemporary suspicious incident.
Detective Inspector Andrew Crook of West CID described the discovery as “incredibly sad,” adding that inquiries are ongoing to determine the age of the remains and establish the circumstances of death. “We are continuing our inquiries to establish the identity of the remains, including their age and how they died,” DI Crook stated. He also expressed gratitude to the homeowners and contractors for their patience as investigations proceeded on the property.
The remains have since been carefully removed for further examination, with forensic specialists tasked with identifying their origin. Police have appealed to the public for assistance, requesting anyone with relevant information to contact them via 101, quoting log 0616 of 15 August.
As investigations continue, authorities aim to shed light on the historical context of the burial and ensure any further findings are appropriately documented, while maintaining sensitivity toward the potentially young victims involved.
