UK rapper and online personality Yung Filly has denied allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman after a performance in Australia, telling a court that the pair had a positive connection and that the atmosphere between them was “good” before the alleged incident.

The artist, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, appeared as a witness at the District Court of Western Australia as his trial continued in Perth. Barrientos, 30, has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including allegations of sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm and strangulation.

The case relates to an alleged incident involving a woman who was 20 years old at the time, following Barrientos’ performance at a nightclub in Hillarys, a coastal suburb of Perth, in 2024.

During his evidence, Barrientos rejected claims that he behaved violently or without consent, telling the court that he was attracted to the woman when they first met at the venue and that their interaction appeared friendly.

The rapper said he noticed the woman while he was in the VIP area of the nightclub and she was standing behind a barrier in the general admission section. He told the court that he was interested in her and described the initial interaction as positive.

Barrientos denied allegations that he touched the woman inappropriately at the nightclub.

He told the court that he remembered placing his hand on her waist but rejected claims that he had touched her breast or put his hands inside her clothing.

The court heard that the pair later travelled to the rapper’s hotel following the performance. Barrientos said the atmosphere between them remained positive during that time, describing the “vibes” between them as good.

The rapper also addressed the involvement of his security team, explaining that the woman’s phone was taken away after arriving at the hotel.

He told the court that this was a normal security practice intended to protect privacy when celebrities were spending time in private locations.

The prosecution has presented a different account of events, alleging that the interaction later became non-consensual and that the woman told Barrientos to stop during the alleged assault.

The court previously heard allegations that the pair initially engaged in consensual sexual activity before the situation changed and violence was allegedly used.

Barrientos has denied the accusations and maintains that any sexual activity was consensual.

The trial is examining evidence from both sides, including witness statements and details surrounding the events after Barrientos’ nightclub appearance.

The prosecution’s case focuses on the woman’s allegations and the circumstances that followed the meeting, while Barrientos’ defence has argued that he did not commit the offences he has been charged with.

The rapper has remained on bail since being charged. As part of his bail conditions, he was permitted to return to the United Kingdom for several months before travelling back to Western Australia to face trial.

Barrientos has built a significant public profile through both music and online entertainment.

He became widely known through his comedy content, social media presence and involvement with the YouTube collective Beta Squad, which has developed a large international audience through challenge videos, entertainment programmes and online collaborations.

Beyond online platforms, Barrientos has appeared on mainstream television, including the celebrity edition of The Great British Bake Off: Stand Up To Cancer and has presented programmes for BBC Three.

His popularity has grown significantly among younger audiences, particularly through platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.

Barrientos has millions of followers across social media platforms, where he has built a career combining music, comedy and digital entertainment.

The allegations have attracted significant public attention because of his high profile, but legal experts have stressed that criminal trials must be decided based only on evidence presented in court.

In Australia, sexual assault cases are determined through a detailed examination of testimony, supporting evidence and legal arguments from both prosecution and defence teams.

The court process allows the accused person to challenge allegations while also giving complainants the opportunity to present their accounts of events.

Throughout the trial, the judge and legal representatives are responsible for ensuring that evidence is assessed fairly and according to legal standards.

Cases involving public figures often receive significant media coverage, but authorities and legal professionals frequently warn against public assumptions before a verdict has been reached.

The outcome of the trial will depend on the evidence considered by the court and whether prosecutors can prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

For Barrientos, the case represents a major legal challenge that could have significant consequences for his personal life and professional career.

The entertainer has previously enjoyed a strong reputation among fans, with his online platforms attracting millions of followers and his work expanding beyond music into television and digital media.

However, criminal allegations involving public figures can have wide-ranging effects, including professional consequences and changes in public perception.

The entertainment industry has increasingly faced discussions about accountability, consent and the responsibilities of public figures. High-profile cases involving allegations of sexual misconduct have prompted wider conversations about how such claims are investigated and addressed.

Advocates for survivors have emphasised the importance of taking allegations seriously and ensuring that those who report sexual offences have access to support and legal protections.

At the same time, legal experts stress the importance of protecting the rights of defendants and ensuring that every accused person receives a fair trial.

As the proceedings continue in Western Australia, the court will continue examining the evidence surrounding the allegations and Barrientos’ response.

The rapper’s testimony forms a central part of the defence case as he seeks to challenge the accusations and maintain his claim that the encounter was consensual.

The trial is expected to continue with further evidence and legal arguments before the court reaches a decision.

Until a verdict is delivered, Barrientos remains presumed innocent under the law.

The case has drawn attention across Australia and the United Kingdom due to the rapper’s public profile, but the final outcome will ultimately depend on the findings of the court after a full examination of the evidence.
