Russian forces have reportedly seized the village of Chervone in Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhia region, marking a continued advance amid ongoing conflict. Ukrainian military sources reported strikes on Russian oil depots in the Tambov and Oryol regions on Tuesday, causing fires at both locations. Additionally, Ukraine’s GUR military intelligence confirmed an attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline in Tambov, a critical route supplying Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia.
In diplomatic developments, former US President Donald Trump described talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin as “reasonably good” but said the path to peace remains uncertain. Special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Putin at the Kremlin for several hours but returned without a breakthrough. Trump stated that while Putin “would like to make a deal,” any outcome will require mutual agreement, emphasizing that Washington already has proposals prepared with Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the exchanges as a normal “working process” with some proposals accepted and others marked unacceptable. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that his team will continue dialogue with US envoys in Miami and stressed that “only by taking Ukraine’s interests into account is a dignified peace possible.”
At the United Nations, 91 countries, including the US, backed a resolution demanding Russia ensure the immediate and unconditional return of all Ukrainian children forcibly transferred or deported since the war began in 2022. Russia, joined by 11 other countries, voted against the resolution, while 57 countries abstained. Russia’s deputy UN ambassador, Maria Zabolotskaya, criticized the resolution, asserting that votes against it support peace.
These developments illustrate the ongoing complexity of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, spanning both military action and high-level diplomacy. The war continues to generate global concern, with nations navigating a challenging mix of strategic, humanitarian, and political interests as efforts toward a negotiated resolution proceed slowly.
