Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have pledged to deepen cooperation between their countries as high-level meetings in North Korea entered a second day.
The talks, described by state media as focused on regional stability, economic coordination and strategic partnership, come amid heightened geopolitical tensions across East Asia.
Officials from both countries said the discussions reaffirmed what they called a “historic friendship” and a shared commitment to strengthening political and security cooperation.
The visit marks one of the most significant diplomatic engagements between Beijing and Pyongyang in recent years and is being closely monitored by neighbouring countries and Western governments.
Analysts say the renewed emphasis on bilateral ties reflects growing concern in both capitals over shifting regional alliances and increased military activity in the Asia-Pacific region.
Chinese and North Korean representatives also discussed trade, infrastructure cooperation and broader regional security issues, though few concrete agreements have been publicly disclosed.
Observers believe Beijing is seeking to maintain influence over Pyongyang while preventing further instability on the Korean Peninsula.
North Korean state media portrayed the meeting as evidence of strong international backing for the country’s leadership and long-term strategic direction.
The discussions come as North Korea continues to face sanctions pressure and diplomatic isolation from much of the international community.
Foreign policy experts say closer coordination between China and North Korea could complicate diplomatic efforts led by the United States and its regional allies.
Regional governments including South Korea and Japan are expected to follow the outcome of the talks closely, particularly regarding security and missile-related developments.
The meeting is expected to conclude with a joint statement emphasising continued cooperation and regional coordination between the two governments.
