The United States has launched military strikes against Iran after a US Army Apache helicopter was reportedly shot down near the Strait of Hormuz, marking a significant escalation in tensions between the two countries.
According to US Central Command, the operation was carried out as a “proportional response” to what officials described as unjustified Iranian aggression following the loss of the helicopter. The strikes reportedly targeted Iranian radar and air-defence infrastructure in a limited military operation.
US President Donald Trump said the United States “must respond” after the Apache helicopter was brought down while operating near the Strait of Hormuz. American officials stated that both crew members survived and were successfully rescued following the incident.
Iranian officials have disputed claims that Tehran intentionally targeted the aircraft, with some government representatives denying direct involvement in the incident. However, Iranian authorities warned that any military action against the country would face a decisive response.
Reports from the region indicated explosions in several locations within southern Iran following the US operation, though the full extent of damage remains unclear.
The confrontation has raised concerns about the future of a fragile ceasefire that had been in place for several weeks and has renewed fears of a wider regional conflict involving multiple actors across the Middle East.
Energy analysts are also monitoring the situation closely, warning that instability around the Strait of Hormuz could affect global shipping routes and energy markets if tensions continue to rise.
Diplomatic efforts remain ongoing, with both Washington and Tehran continuing to publicly reference the possibility of negotiations despite the latest exchange of military action.
