Japanese police say a bear managed to escape from a factory facility after opening a window from inside the building, triggering a large-scale search operation and renewed concern over increasing wildlife encounters in urban areas.

The incident reportedly occurred in northern Japan, where workers discovered signs of damage inside the factory before authorities confirmed that a wild bear had entered the premises overnight.

According to police, the animal later escaped by forcing open a window and climbing out before officers and wildlife officials arrived at the scene.

Security footage and physical evidence suggested the bear had wandered through parts of the factory, causing minor property damage but no reported injuries.

Local authorities issued warnings to nearby residents and launched patrols in surrounding areas amid fears the animal could move toward populated neighbourhoods.

Wildlife experts say bear sightings have increased across several regions of Japan in recent years due to habitat loss, food shortages and expanding human development near forested areas.

Officials believe changing climate conditions and declining natural food sources may also be pushing bears closer to towns and industrial zones in search of food.

Police urged residents to avoid forest edges, travel cautiously in rural areas and immediately report any wildlife sightings to emergency services.

The unusual escape quickly attracted attention on Japanese social media, where many users expressed surprise at reports that the bear had apparently opened the factory window on its own.

Experts noted that bears are highly intelligent animals capable of manipulating doors, containers and simple mechanisms while searching for food or escape routes.

Authorities continue to monitor the area while wildlife teams attempt to track and safely relocate the animal away from residential communities.

Japan has experienced a growing number of bear-related incidents in recent years, including attacks, property damage and repeated sightings near schools, farms and businesses.
