He insisted that his followers are carrying forward the light of civilisation. Experts note that the far right frequently uses such phrasing as a proxy. These terms often signal a deeper alignment with white Christian nationalist movements.

All this was said near famous Smithsonian institutions devoted to American history. Trump has consistently sought to eviscerate funding for these cultural museums. A recent magazine article highlighted the deep administrative challenges the institution currently faces. Its leadership noted this is the most difficult period since the Civil War.

Any lingering doubt about the nature of the event was soon banished. The evening ended with audience members rising to repeat the famous campaign slogan. Trump then broke into his signature dance moves for the adoring crowd. The United States Marine Band awkwardly played upbeat pop music to close out.
